Communiqué de presse Pennes10

NO SLEEP UNTIL TURKEY FOR PENNESI

Powerboat P1 can reveal the extraordinary lengths to which legendary Italian powerboat racer Marco Pennesi is going, to ensure that the Metamarine Pignolo 53 can compete in the Turkish Grand Prix of the Sea in Istanbul next week.

Not yet fully recovered from the injuries he sustained during the Metamarine Pignolo’s unfortunate spin-out in Malta, Pennesi - against doctors orders - is combining his full-time job, running foods giant MetaMeccanica,
with carrying out repairs to his boat.

Too busy working on his boat, Powerboat P1 tracked down Pennesi's teammate, Max Ferrari, who was nothing but full of praise for Marco and his dedication to the team. “Marco is a great teammate and not just because of his incredible technical preparation. Despite not being an engineer, he is extremely capable of looking after all the technical aspects of the boat. Also, he is not afraid of having me next to him in the boat!”

Powerboat P1 has learned that each night Pennesi finishes work at eight o'clock before joining a group of friends to work on his Seatek-powered hull well into the small hours of the morning in a fight against the clock to get the boat in shape for Powerboat P1’s first visit to Turkey, where Ferrari exclaims "winning will be guaranteed!"

P1 World Championship

Lucas Oil Outerlimits Power to P1 Pole

Communiqué de presse Lucas_10

#77 Lucas Oil Outerlimits and #26 Team SW1 Capital will start on pole position, in the Evolution and SuperSport classes respectively, for the Turkish Grand Prix of the Sea in Istanbul this weekend.

Charging head-on into the ferocious Bosphorus current, Lucas Oil Outerlimits pipped the Cigarette Smash Poker hull by less than a second, powering their Chief engine up to speeds of 110mph to guarantee prime positioning for Saturday’s Sprint Race.

Clocking a total time of 2:07,77 for their two laps, Lucas Oil Outerlimits pilot Nigel Hook was understandably delighted with the boats performance, erasing the disappointments of the Maltese Grand Prix of the Sea, where the American team’s boat was filling up with water towards the end of the Endurance Race.

Hook said: “Everyone saw how smooth the Lucas Oil Outerlimits boat ran over the top of the water today. It’s very fractional but the design of the hull will lend itself to the Bosphorus’ disturbed and very strong waters.

“Looking at the qualifying times, there is less than a second between ourselves and the Cigarette Smash Poker boat so it will be a very tough competition with both Italian teams, Cigarette and the other Outerlimits, #88 SNAV OSG, boat just behind in third too.”

Equally as satisfied with their efforts after displeasing late drama in Valletta, Team SW1 Capital duo, Kim Collins and Dan Cramphorn, who snuck home in 2:41,01, were “very pleased” with their start to the Turkish Grand Prix of the Sea.

Collins said: “I was a little worried about getting our speed right after what happened in Malta but the boat ran perfectly and we got what we wanted - only just though!

Finishing a mere 0.18 seconds ahead of Baia Attolini (2;41.19) in second and with only two seconds separating the top five teams in a closely fought SuperSport class, Cramphorn, Team SW1 Capital’s Pilot and Team Principal, is expecting a very tight race. “It’s going to be very close. The turns are so tight, so it’s certainly going to be exciting and I strongly advise anyone who is on Suada Island to bring their cameras because they’re going to have a lot to watch. “

Powerboat P1 World Championship

Turkish Grand Prix of the Sea

HEADLINE: Ladies Day In Istanbul

Shelley Jory and Audrien Ciantar became the first all-female winners in Powerboat P1 history after stealing victory in Saturday’s SuperSport Sprint Race at the Turkish Grand Prix of the Sea in Istanbul.

Racing the Chaudron-manufactured #44 Iko Casa hull, Powerboat P1’s first-ever ladies team triumphed at the expense of SuperSport World Champions, Angelo Tedeschi and Aaron Ciantar, following the #43 Seagull Chaudron team’s agonising last-lap overspeeding penalty, which saw them drop from first to fourth in the race standings.

Jubilant Ikocasa pilot Shelley Jory said it was a “dream come true” to stand on top of the Powerboat P1 World Championship podium. “It was a wonderful feeling to make history as the first all-girl team to win a race. I don’t think any women have ever got to this high level in motorsports, either in Formula 1 or Indycar. It’s just been an amazing day.”

Championship rivals #38 Baia Attolini were promoted to runners-up with Belgian boat #17 Masforce celebrating their first podium of the season. However, Friday’s PowerPole pacesetters, #26 Team SW1 Capital, suffered a third-lap retirement after a drive shaft snapped.

In the Evolution Class, #77 Lucas Oil Outerlimits continued their dominance on the Bosphorus by powering to their first triumph of the 2009 Powerboat P1 World Championship.

#33 Furnibo pushed Lucas Oil Outerlimits pair Joe Sgro and Mike Fiore all the way in their debut run-out but any hopes of a perfect start to their campaign failed to materialise, especially with the American team so strong around the turns.

Fore was delighted to keep the momentum going in Istanbul after claiming pole position on Friday, saying: “We were happy coming out of Malta but the boat went very well today even though we took it pretty conservatively. The other two boats were quick but as long as we keep consistently accumulating points and keep the boat in good condition then we’ll be happy. “

Strong challenges were expected to come from Maltese Grand Prix of the Sea victors, #88 SNAV OSG, and the returning #53 Metamarine Pignolo 53, but both boats were back in the dry pits before the first lap was completed.

Sprint kings in Valletta’s season-opener, #10 Cigarette Smash Poker, edged a close battle with #47 Silverline to secure third spot.

Powerboat P1 World Championship

Turkish Grand Prix of the Sea

Please find attached and pasted below the latest press release from Powerboat P1, featuring U.K based Team SW1 Capital on their SuperSport Class Endurance Race victory.

Kind regards,

The Powerboat P1 Media and PR Team.

Fairytale Ending For British Team In Turkey

Team SW1 Capital wrote their own fairytale story in Istanbul on Sunday with victory in the SuperSport Class Endurance Race at the Turkish Grand Prix of the Sea.
Having crawled back to the dry pits after snapping a shaft during Saturday’s Sprint Race, Team SW1 Capital staged a miraculous 24-hour turnaround with driver Dan Cramphorn’s brother, Jamie, flying out the necessary spare part from London via Taunton, Somerset to Istanbul in time for emergency overnight repairs.
Hero of the hour Jamie Cramphorn, who couriered the shaft, said: “I think [Dan] owes me about a week's wages but I couldn't be happier for the team. They fully deserve their victory.“
A far happier throttleman, Kim Collins said the Team SW1 Capital duo must be either braver or more stupid than their rivals after romping home by a margin of 44 seconds. “It should’ve been our weekend. Yesterday we had big problems but today was perfect and the boat didn’t miss a beat.”
Driver Dan Cramphorn echoed Kim’s sentiments. “It was a great team effort and a great end to the weekend. All the hard work, frantic phonecalls and plotting seems worthwhile now. It now puts us back on the right track in the SuperSport World Championship so these points were really important.”
SW1 Capital representative Simon Luhr, who flew out for the weekend, said: “It was a fabulous day. Just to get the boat back in the water was fantastic. We’re all very happy about the result and looking forward to a great partnership."

Communiqué de presse Cigare10

#10 Cigarette Smash Poker confirmed their reputation as the Kings of the Evolution Class in Turkey after storming their way to Endurance Race glory at the Turkish Grand Prix of the Sea on Sunday.

The Italian-team of Luca Formilli-Fendi and Matteo Nicolini showed outstanding pace and control on Istanbul’s beautiful Bosphorus waterway - the breathtaking backdrop for a ferocious weekend’s racing - by leading from start to finish of the 14-lap race.

After standing on top of the podium for the first time this season an elated Nicolini said: "It was a perfect race. We had an excellent start. The boat started in the middle of the Bosphorus and we used the slightly shorter line to pressurise the Lucas Oil Outerlimits boat.

"We had much better acceleration today with a slightly better set-up. We need to improve the boat a little bit as Lucas Oil Outerlimits are still very strong, so we need to work on the boat to ensure we are competitive in San Benedetto del Tronto."

Belgian-team #33 Furnibo narrowly missed out on celebrating a stunning 2009 Powerboat P1 debut by finishing just one-point behind the all-conquering Italians in the overall standings. Racing for the first time in the Fountain hull, Frank Hemelaer and Pierre Colpin continued their sequence of second-placed finishes.

New Powerboat P1 Evolution Class World Championship leaders, British-based outfit #44 Silverline were not too far behind in third place overall but most pleasing for Powerboat P1 fans was the triumphant return of Marco Pennesi and Max Ferrari in the #53 Metamarine Pignolo 53. The colourful Italian partners crossed Sunday’s finishing line in third position but Saturday’s pre-race retirement hampered any chance of overall Championship glory.
